Supernatural is on Hiatus -- Time for the Supernatural Un-Book Club!
So leaving us with this image
Erik Kripke has once again catapulted us into another hellatus.
And I’m so at a loss for words after that last scene, that I’ve been having trouble writing this. I think I’ve started it four or five times.
Anyway, here it is, with the start of the hellatus, we are back to the Supernatural Un-Book Club! If you don’t know about it, this is something that we do to get us through the hellatus. We take past episodes and revisit them. If you go here, you can see some of our different “installments” of the book club. And if you read under “Welcome and description of the club”, you can get an idea of the type of approach we take.
We usually pick a weekend on which to post, and post sometime on or around that weekend. (I’ve posted as late as Wednesday.)
Just a reminder, you are welcome to do an episode that’s already been done. There are a lot of different ways to “slice and dice” an episode, so to speak!
If you are interested, please either comment or PM me. I’ll assign weekends on a first come-first serve basis. We are going from this upcoming weekend until January 10th.
I’m happy to announce that bananabehr is going to take the first weekend (December 6th) with a comparison of Heart and IKWYDLS. Thanks!
So come and join us, and if you are not inspired to “host” a week, please just come in and chat about the episode! We’d love to see everyone!

Phantom Traveler -- The Advent of Demons
Phantom Traveler – The Advent of Demons
Phantom Traveler was a more important episode than any of us realized when it first aired. Beyond just revealing Dean’s hidden fears and Sam’s strength of leadership, it provided our very first introduction to demons. After viewing it again in the light of all subsequent episodes, I would submit it also served as the Winchester brothers’ practical introduction to demons. Given the revelation that demons have been behind all of the Winchesters’ travails, Phantom Traveler bears another look.

Un-Book Club Thank You!
With the return of first-run Supernatural episodes *glee* it’s time to take a break from the “Un-book” Club.
I would like to take this time to thank everyone who has “hosted” one of these get-togethers as well as all who have participated in the discussions. I’ve really enjoyed the discussions and having a “new” chance to return to some of my favorite episodes.
I’m figuring we’ll start up again in the summer once we’ve all had a chance to process whatever Kripke and company throw at us in the next three weeks.
Coming up in the summer, we have Shutterbugs hosting Heart
hosting Salvation/Devil's Trap/IMTOD
and Kitty hosting Nightmare
. If any of you would like to “book” a weekend now, please PM me. Also if anyone else is interested in hosting, please let me know.
Something to think about is that just because an episode has been done, it doesn’t mean that you can’t return to it. For example, I did WiaWSNB, but I focused on the mind of Dean Winchester. Someone else might want to take a look at the use of light and shadows or the use to color to accent Dean’s trip “over the rainbow”. In fact, the next time that I’m up, I’m going to pick a scene from WiaWSNB and compare it with a scene from another episode.
Just a little food for thought.
I think I’ve figured out how to do a sticky-post, and will put one up with links to all the Un-Book Club posts.
Again, thanks to all of you, and see you all this summer!! Current Mood: chipper

Supernatural Un-Book Club: The Benders
As I was sitting down to write my review of The Benders, I got stuck. Current Mood: stressed
I picked this episode because it is one of my favorites of Season 1. It has everything a true Supernatural fan loves: brotherly moments, great one-liners, aliases, creepy-ass monster of the week. Plus, it's set in Hibbing, Minnesota and for this Minnesotan - that is just plain awesome.

Being Dean Winchester – What is and What Should Never Be.
For me, the mind of Dean Winchester is a microcosm of the Supernatural world. Sudden, sharp and scary. Dark and deep. Warm and supporting. Haunted and haunting. One moment, heartwarming, the next, heartbreaking. And layers upon layers upon layers. On the surface, smart and slick. Underneath hard, strong, stalwart and loyal. Under that, insecure, unsure and angry. And finally at the core a little 4 year old boy that saw his world come crashing down on one fateful night.
A four-year old core so strong, that when Dean has his heart’s wish answered, it’s not to end up on a tropical island full of Gumby Girls, as the adult Dean Winchester would, no doubt, want us all to believe. Nor is it to end up in Atlantic City gambling with a hot winning streak. It’s simply to have his mom back.
But first, let’s take a step back. Current Mood: contemplative
Welcome to the Supernatural Un-Book Club Community.
Welcome to the Supernatural Un-Book Club Community.
This was started in an attempt to give us something to do during the various “Hellatuses” (or would that be “Hellati”?) from new Supernatural episodes that happen to often throughout the year.
The idea is to pick a Supernatural episode, and present it in a way that’s a little different than the usual episode review that we usually do. It’s basically choosing an episode (or episodes), and then picking something that strikes you for discussion. For example, it might be about the bond between brothers, it might be about foreshadowing for future episodes, or it might just be something you noticed in the episode.
For those that have previously posted, please feel free to either repost or post a link here so that we can have the “chapters” of our club in one place.
Thank you to all who have participated in either hosting or posting comments.
And thank you to whimsywinx
for finding all these amazing icons!
Now I just have to figure out how to use them . . . :-) Current Mood: excited

Book Club: Born Under a Bad Sign
Big Brother Dean worried sick. Blood on Sammy--not his. Speaking Urdu? Menthols and Bon Jovi. Steve Wandel. Feeling different. He’d rather die. Gun, meet face. Jo, meet Sam.
“My daddy shot your daddy in the head.” Nose flare, evil smirks, flexing and scary. But in a hot way.
“No, Sammy. Come on.” Possessed? Shoulder, meet bullet. More evil smirking. Magic cell phones and what IS that song?? Butcher. Bobby. Meg. All tied up but with a few new tricks. Poor Bobby’s house. Poor Dean. Burns! Poor Sam. “If it’s the last thing I do…” Back On the Road Again.
Ahhh…Born Under a Bad Sign.
